He is the founder of two referral-based specialty practices—South Carolina Dental Sleep & TMJ and Carolina TMJ and Sleep Solutions—that focus exclusively on helping patients find relief from sleep-disordered breathing, craniofacial dysfunction, and chronic facial pain. With nearly two decades of clinical experience and board certification from the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine, Dr. Covington is known for blending airway-focused philosophies with practical, patient-centered care. His practices are built on the belief that patients deserve both structural solutions and effective symptom management, whether through oral appliance therapy, interdisciplinary treatment, or regenerative modalities. Education objectives: Identify key signs and symptoms of sleep-disordered breathing and TMJ dysfunction during routine dental examinations. Differentiate between common TMD diagnoses, including retrodiscitis, internal derangement, and myofascial pain, using clinical exam protocols. Implement screening tools such as the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, Mallampati scoring, and bruxism evaluation in a dental setting. Integrate oral appliance therapy into clinical workflows, including case selection, appliance design, and referral coordination for sleep apnea diagnosis. |
