Speaker: Dr. Richard Boyd DMD, MS, FACD

Speaker Biography: Dr. Richard E. Boyd, DMD, MS, FACD, is a nationally and internationally sought-after speaker, orthodontist, and educator with over 40 years of experience shaping modern orthodontic practice. He founded and led Boyd Orthodontics for four decades before transitioning into a semi-retired role focused on teaching, consulting (Boyd Harris Advisors), and speaking.  He is one of the most awarded orthodontists in South Carolina.

Dr. Boyd currently serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthodontics at the Medical University of South Carolina and as an Assistant Clinical Professor at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He has developed curricula in Invisalign, clear aligner therapy, 3D printing, and practice management, and is recognized as one of the earliest and most successful adopters of aligner therapy in the United States.

A Top 1% Invisalign Provider and the only orthodontist in South Carolina to hold that distinction in 2017, Dr. Boyd is known for his direct, insightful approach to leadership, financial stewardship, and clinical excellence. His presentations—delivered across North America, Europe, Australia, and the Caribbean—blend clinical pearls with real-world business acumen, challenging audiences to rethink how they lead, grow, and sustain elite practices.

Dr. Boyd is a Fellow of the American College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy and remains deeply committed to education, mentorship, and philanthropy.

Session Description: This course will provide a review of the five simple steps designed by Dr. Boyd to help improve your clear aligner approvals. It is based on the curriculum that was developed for Invisalign, but the principles can be applied to other systems (Ulab, Angel Aligners, Clear Correct etc.). 

Educational Objectives:

• Apply Dr. Boyd's five-step approach to 3D treatment planning for clear aligner cases.
• Apply protocols for correcting the anterior-posterior  (Class I,II, III), vertical (deep bite/open bite), and the horizontal dimension.
• Plan and sequence individual tooth movements for predictable results.
• Set up an occlusion plan that gives a stable, functional final result.
• Apply the Five Step Plan to review and approve Clear Aligner/ClinCheck treatment plans efficiently and with confidence.
• Reduce refinements and redos through better planning up front.
• Use these principles with other aligner systems
